Dennis Basso's New Collection: Celebrating NYC's Iconic 'It Girls' of the Past (2026)

Get ready to dive into a fashion journey that celebrates the iconic 'It Girls' of New York's past! Designer Dennis Basso has crafted a collection that's a true ode to the glamour and elegance of a bygone era. But here's where it gets intriguing: he's drawing inspiration from the legendary socialites Pat Buckley, C.Z. Guest, and Nan Kempner.

"This season is all about honoring the spirit of New York City and its enchanting nights," Basso reveals. "I've drawn inspiration from the women I knew who embodied perfection, whether casually or dressed to the nines, especially during those magical evenings."

Basso's collection primarily shines a spotlight on exquisite evening wear, but it also offers versatile looks suitable for special daytime occasions. As he reminisces about the chic hotspots of the past, like the now-closed 21 and Le Cirque, he observes a refreshing trend: more women embracing the art of dressing up.

"It's wonderful to see people out and about, embracing the opportunity to dress up and make a statement," he says. "Whether it's a special event or a night on the town, people are embracing their sophisticated side."

With an impressive roster of celebrity clients, including Martha Stewart, Liza Minnelli, Jennifer Lopez, Mary J. Blige, and Carol Alt, Basso's designs have already made their mark on the red carpet. And now, there's a chance his looks will grace the press tour for the highly anticipated sequel to 'The Devil Wears Prada.' The stylist has reportedly pulled looks for Meryl Streep to consider, adding a touch of glamour to the promotion.

And this is the part most people miss: a coat designed by Basso was worn by Meryl Streep's character, Miranda Priestly, in the original 2006 film.

The collection was unveiled at the Columbus Citizens Foundation on the Upper East Side, attracting a stylish crowd, including the well-known Rosanna Scotto.

So, what do you think? Is this a refreshing take on fashion, or does it feel like a step back in time? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
