In an exciting turn of events, Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar is set to take on a villainous role in the upcoming fifth installment of the beloved Golmaal series, which has been a staple of Indian comedy since its inception. As reported by Variety India, this casting choice has sparked considerable buzz within the film industry and among fans alike.
The Golmaal franchise, which began in 2006 with the release of Golmaal: Fun Unlimited, is renowned for its vibrant humor and strong ensemble cast, all under the direction of Rohit Shetty. The fifth movie promises to retain its signature comedic essence while introducing fantastical elements and a more defined antagonist storyline, which is a departure from its usual light-hearted conflicts.
Akshay Kumar's role as the main antagonist is particularly noteworthy. He has a rich history in the comedy genre, with memorable performances in films like Hera Pheri, Housefull, and Welcome. This role will mark a shift for him, as he steps into a darker character that contrasts with the playful dynamics typically found in the Golmaal universe. Interestingly, this will be Akshay's second consecutive portrayal of a villain, following his performance in Priyadarshan’s Haiwaan alongside Saif Ali Khan.
Returning to lead the Golmaal ensemble is Ajay Devgn, joined by familiar faces such as Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, and Kunal Kemmu. The film will also feature veteran comedians like Johnny Lever, Sanjay Mishra, Mukesh Tiwari, and Ashwini Kalsekar. There are rumors about Sharman Joshi possibly reprising his role, but the participation of Kareena Kapoor Khan remains unconfirmed.
Filming for Golmaal 5 is slated to commence at the end of February 2026 at Film City in Mumbai, aiming for a theatrical release in early 2027. This installment will coincide with the 20th anniversary of the franchise, marking a significant milestone. Notably, it will also be the sixth collaboration between Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn, following their work together in films such as Suhaag (1994), Khakee (2004), Insan (2005), Sooryavanshi (2021), and Singham Again (2024).
As of now, the production team has yet to officially confirm Akshay Kumar's casting, leaving fans eagerly awaiting further announcements regarding the film's details.
